SUpost, the Stanford community's marketplace

01 / 04

The product

SUpost has been the Stanford community's marketplace since 2005. Posting requires a stanford.edu email, so listings and replies come from verified students, alumni and staff. Capmus brings the same verified marketplace to students at other universities.

People use it to sell things, find housing and hire: more than 309,000 for-sale listings, 115,000 housing listings and 5,800 job listings so far.

My role

I joined in July 2025 as a full-stack and AI engineer. The platform runs on Next.js and Supabase, with real-time messaging between buyers and sellers, location-based listings and image uploads on AWS S3, and I'm upgrading it to the latest stack.

I built Capi, an assistant on Google's Gemini that helps students find deals, navigate listings and get support. Now I'm building an AI agent that streamlines how the marketplace runs.

Scale

As of June 2026, about 20,500 people use SUpost each month, across 67,000 sessions and 435,000 pageviews. More than 50,000 verified Stanford students, alumni and staff have posted since 2005.

56% of for-sale listings and 61% of housing listings get a direct response. For listings that get one, the first reply arrives within 24 hours for 69% of for-sale and 77% of housing listings. Posters have received more than 860,000 buyer inquiries, 725,000 renter inquiries and 133,000 candidate responses.

Figures come from SUpost's public stats page, built from its production database and Google Analytics. SUpost is independent and not affiliated with Stanford University.
